1945-1947
After the second world war came to an end, the Soviet Union had a stranglehold on Eastern Europe. Considering the great economic struggles that England was dealing with, America became the biggest force against the Soviets.
1948-1949
Berlin in Germany is divided into sections, with Great Britain, France and America having control of one part, and the Soviets owning another. They are imposing their communistic views meanwhile, and explode an atomic bomb in 1949 to show that they possess nuclear weaponry.
1947-1953
The Truman Doctrine is adopted by America in attempts to defend world-wide freedom. America is also in a struggle with the communistic ideals that are spreading throughout the world, but they manage. Northern Korea invades the southern Korea, and America steps in to end a conflict which takes the lives of many. Eisenhower is elected president of America, while Stalin of the Soviet Union dies in 1953.
1953-1956
Khrushchev manages to become the leader of the Soviet Union over Malenkov. Hungary rises up against communism, but unfortunately loses to Soviet tanks.
1957-1961
The Soviets launch Sputnik, the first man-made satellite to orbit Earth, in 1957. In 1961, they launch Yuri Gargarin into outer space.
1958-1963
The Berlin Wall is built to keep West Germans from fleeing West Germany.
1959-1962
Soviet missiles are being stored in Cuba.
1960-1972
MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) is realized between Soviets and Americans, in the event of nuclear war. Basically, each side realizes that the launching of nuclear warheads at America will mean nuclear warheads fired back from America.
The 1960's
Countries under Soviet stranglehold are experiencing poor economy, and the drive/passion in people to innovate is depleted.

The Communist movement in China has achieved success, while in 1960, the Sino-Soviet split opens the door for Nixon's visit to Beijing.
1967-1978
Israel wins against a conflict with Egypt and Syria, two countries backed by the Soviet Union. America backed up Israel, and backs up South Africa with its struggles with communism (once again, a southern territory is oppressed by communism).
1977-1981
Eastern Europe is armed by the Soviets. U.S. warns of placing missiles in Western Europe. Martial law is active in Poland.
1989
Berlin Wall comes down. Considered to be the final, if not, at least monumental movement towards the end of Communism's grip on Europe.
