Vladimir Putin-Putin has been and still is the president of Russia. Since May 7th, 2012, and also having served as president from 2000 to 2008, he has been active in Russian government. Before this, he was Russia's prime minister, from 1999 to 2000.
Dmitry Medvedev-Medvedev (the man to the left, in the picture above) is the tenth and current prime minister of Russia. He served as the as the third president of Russia from 2008 to 2012.
From 1992 too 1995, Bosnia underwent many civil changes. It declared it's independence in 1992, but since it was home to Serbians and Croatians who had different cultural and religious beliefs, civil conflict was on the horizon. In 1993, the Bosnian deputy Prime Minister was killed by Serbian forces. This led to more conflict, eventually causing NATO to step in. The United States and United Nations also played a role in the dilemma, with NATO taking control of the peace-keeping duties in the end. This event can be considered the Bosnian War.
As of 01/01/2007, the European Union consists of 27 members. It was created after World War II, with the original members being Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Its main goal was to create a reliance among countries that trade with one another, so that conflict might be less desired. In 2007, it was Romania and Bulgaria that joined this union.
Interesting event: The Greek government recently has raised the tax on heating oil. This caused citizens to start burning fuel from other sources, such as trees and even furniture. The emissions from this movement are fairly costly to the environment, too, not just the Greeks.
